Hi, introducing myself here as a complete Kl00less N00b. This is my first foray into 3d modelling (if you don't count some simple CAD done with SKetchup) and I am doing the cg-cookie online course.
My goal is to be able to contribute 3d elements to a modding community that I particularly like and appreciate -- i.e. wanting to give something back. I know absolutely nothing about what I'm getting myself into, but I have been in software a long time and understand words like scripting, plugins, Python, etc. I am learning to understand words like "loop cut and slide"
I will probably be asking Really Stupid Questions for a while because Blender is a tool so incredibly rich and featureful that a newbie can get lost very quickly. I'm hoping for a little help -- and some tolerance and patience -- when I can't google the answer after several tries (or can't understand the answer that I googled!).
The more I learn about this toolkit the more in awe I am of some of the 3d art generated for indie and commercial gaming. I hope one day to be able to produce a simple building or tree that is halfway convincing but it's pretty intimidating joining a community so expert in something that I'm (as yet) so ignorant about. Some of you folks are real Artists with a cap-A and I'm gobsmacked by what you can do and how much work it takes to do it!
