Ok so I have another issue with retopology and my retopo method. I use a shrink wrap mod with a sub div mod typically on simple then just crawl along the model one section at a time. But I get these artifacts when I try retain the details from the sculpt.
Is this method inherently flawed or am I missing something? The standard method of retopology is a bit too clunky so I have gone over to using this method along with the "retopoflow" addon.
My impression is that the immediate and nearest faces to the deep creases of the subdivisions get stretched over these deep creases rather then snapping down into them to create a proper adhesion to the surface.
The only solution is to actually run a face edge right along the creases and ridges of the sculpt fallowing the topography as closely as possible. This makes for incredibly long and tedious retopology.
If I try to use larger quads I get an even more deformed mesh. so I am again reduced to smaller and more intricate quads. This was an issue with the first model but the level of creases and ridges was much smaller so I could work with it after the retopology.
Is the model too detailed or should I be changing the sculpting process?
