The last exercise in bouncing ball animation.
Compared to previous CGCookie Animation Bootcamp exercise, this is an extremely ambitious project!
I started by blocking out the various poses and locations of the ball through the scene. My first pass was chaotic and hurried. A long term goal of mine is to animate a dance, so I thought now was as good a time as any to start practicing for it. So, I laid down a 3/4 musical meter at a rate of 120bpm (12 frames per beat) to the timing, and shifted the poses to the beat markers. Having done that, I decided I really wanted musical accompaniment, and after a long search, stumbled upon a fantastic piece by Kevin MacLeod (credited below).
With music playing in the background, the actions went through several more iterations before I finally settled on this final product. I'm sure I could push more, but I'm ready to move on to more learning.
I'm happy to say that this exercise taught me to use the Action Editor instead of the Graph Editor to lay out the animation. All of my previous exercises were completed entirely in the Graph Editor, and what a pain that was. This time, I only went to the Graph Editor to smooth a transition.
