Reviving an old thread (and stopping by to say 'hello', as I've been away for awhile).
As of yesterday, I finished the assembly of my new custom PC, which consists of the following components:
- Gigabyte H170 Gaming-3 Motherboard (Skylake)
- Intel i5-6500 CPU
- CoolerMaster Hyper 212 CPU Cooler
- 16 GB DDR4-3000 Ram
- PNY 240 GB SSD
- Seagate 1 TB HDD
- XFX-branded 8 GB AMD Radeon RX 480 GPU
The highlight of the system is the graphics card. This new radeon is pretty amazing for $250. For production work, the 8 GB definitely seems worth it.
After doing some tests though, I feel like Cycles rendering on the GPU isn't quite as fast as I would like, though it's still not too shabby. The BMW test rendered out in 1:54. I've attached a screenshot, and am open to ideas on ways I might be able to tweak the performance.
